This engine served as engine 207 for many years. By the time they recieved their brand new engine circa 1987 the old engine (its nickname was "old Faithful) was very worn and plagued by mechanical problems. However, the local batallion chiefs of the time wanted to retain an additional Type II in the batallion so they re-assigned this engine as engine 229 instead of removing it from service as it should have been. The "old" engine 229 became a reserve engine. After less than a year of continued and worsening mechanical problems, this engine was fianally removed from service and the "old" engine was returned to engine 229.
